Know Your Lubricant
Slippery when wet ...
In this brochure, we will discuss three different categories of lubricants: water-based, silicone-based, and oil-based. Each category has its advantages and disadvantages, and within each, there are many varieties to choose from.
A note on sensitivities
People with sensitive skin may find some ingredients in lubricants irritating. If you tend to be sensitive to chemical ingredients, it is advisable to avoid propylene glycol and parabens. If you have low and chronic yeast levels, it is recommended to avoid synthetic glycerin, as it breaks down into sugar and can feed the yeast. Water-based lubricants with more organic or natural ingredients and fewer components are often a good option for people with sensitive skin. Some examples are: Sliquid Organics, Yes! H2O, and Hathor Sutil, made in Canada.
Water-based lubricants
As they can dry out over time, just add a little water to restore their lubrication.
Silicone-based lubricants
Note: Do not use silicone lubricants with silicone or elastomer toys, as they can damage the material.
Oil-based lubricants
Note: Oil-based lubricants are not compatible with latex condoms and should not be used with most rubber or latex toys. If used internally, choose natural and body-safe formulas, as they tend to be gentler than petroleum-derived oils.
