Know Your Lubricant

Slippery when wet ...
In our opinion, lubricants are undoubtedly the best little-known sex toys. They have the power to intensify sensations and open up new possibilities. Whether you play alone or with a partner, lubricants allow you to enjoy for longer, with greater pleasure, and even in new ways (like with sex toys or exploring anal sex!).

Gone are the days when commercial lubricants were made solely for medical exams and to treat vaginal dryness. Now there is a wide range of lubricants with different textures, flavors, and ingredients for all kinds of situations. To decide which lubricant is right for you, it's helpful to know a little about its composition and what you plan to use it for.

In this brochure, we will discuss three different categories of lubricants: water-based, silicone-based, and oil-based. Each category has its advantages and disadvantages, and within each, there are many varieties to choose from.

A note on sensitivities

People with sensitive skin may find some ingredients in lubricants irritating. If you tend to be sensitive to chemical ingredients, it is advisable to avoid propylene glycol and parabens. If you have low and chronic yeast levels, it is recommended to avoid synthetic glycerin, as it breaks down into sugar and can feed the yeast. Water-based lubricants with more organic or natural ingredients and fewer components are often a good option for people with sensitive skin. Some examples are: Sliquid Organics, Yes! H2O, and Hathor Sutil, made in Canada.

Water-based lubricants

Water-based lubricants are the most versatile and popular option. They are safe to use with all types of sex toys, latex condoms, and for vaginal, anal, and oral play. Available in various textures, from light liquids to thick gels, they are suitable for everything from daily use to anal play.

As they can dry out over time, just add a little water to restore their lubrication.

Silicone-based lubricants

Silicone-based lubricants are ultra-slippery, long-lasting, and only require a small amount, as they do not evaporate like water-based lubricants. They are safe with latex condoms, ideal for use in the shower, bath, or pool, and are often an excellent choice for people with sensitive skin.

Note: Do not use silicone lubricants with silicone or elastomer toys, as they can damage the material.

Oil-based lubricants

Oil-based lubricants provide rich and long-lasting lubrication, ideal for massages, masturbation, and anal play. Their non-sticky texture lasts much longer than water-based lubricants, making them the preferred choice for extended sessions.

Note: Oil-based lubricants are not compatible with latex condoms and should not be used with most rubber or latex toys. If used internally, choose natural and body-safe formulas, as they tend to be gentler than petroleum-derived oils.
