Care and cleaning

Care and cleaning according to the material

Sex toys are made from many different materials, and while any toy can be cleaned with mild soap and water, some materials require special instructions. Many sex toys should be stored separately from other toys, especially those made of rubber, elastomer, and synthetic skin, as they can react with other toys. If your sex toy includes manufacturer instructions, we recommend following them. If your toy does not include instructions or you are looking for more information, keep reading.

Silicone

Silicone is durable, retains body heat, and is easy to clean. Additionally, it is largely hypoallergenic, phthalate-free, and latex-free. While they are durable, silicone toys can tear, so keep sharp edges away from them. Non-motorized silicone toys can be boiled. Never use silicone-based lubricants with silicone toys. Do not store silicone toys with rubber or elastomer toys.

Stainless steel and aluminum

Metal toys are great for temperature play - you can warm or cool them with water or ice. Metal is not damaged by contact with water or changing temperatures. Metal toys without motors can be boiled or cleaned with soap and water.

Hard plastic

Hard plastic toys are often more economical and, being non-porous, are easy to clean. Clean them with mild soap and water and let them air dry completely between uses.

Elastomer/Cyberskin/Rubber

Our elastomer, cyberskin, and rubber toys do not contain phthalates for those who want soft and less expensive sex toys but are concerned about exposure to phthalates or latex. These sex toys are porous and cannot be boiled. For this reason, we recommend using a condom on these toys when sharing them. You may want to lightly dust your Cyberskin toy with cornstarch to restore the velvety finish. All porous toys should be stored separately from all other toys.

Glass

Glass has a unique, smooth, and solid texture. Never boil or freeze your glass toy. If dropped or handled improperly, glass can scratch, chip, or break. Check your glass dildo for any defects before each use. Glass dildos can be cleaned with water and mild soap, or with isopropyl alcohol (make sure to remove any alcohol residue).

Wood

Wood is durable and dense, and it is one of the oldest materials for sex toys. Most wooden toys are porous and can only be spot cleaned, while others have a non-porous protective coating that allows them to be boiled and washed.

Leather

Leather is a durable material for harnesses and other sex accessories. Leather that comes into contact with bodily fluids should be cleaned after each use. In most cases, leather can be cleaned with a damp cloth and soap or disinfected with isopropyl alcohol. Leather conditioner helps keep it soft and prevents cracking.

General cleaning and care tips

  • Clean your toy before first use and after each use.
  • When using a toy with a harness, be careful not to cut it by forcing it through the harness.
  • If you use alcohol to clean a toy, rinse it well afterward.
  • Let your toy air dry before storing it.
  • Remove the batteries from your vibrator when not in use.

Safety tips for sex toys

If you share your toy or use it both vaginally and anally, use a condom to minimize the risk of infection transmission. Penis rings should be used for a maximum of 30 minutes. Remove them immediately if you feel pain or discomfort. Only use sex toys with a flared base for anal penetration. Toys do not lubricate themselves! Using lubricant may increase your comfort and pleasure with the toys.
